Sandra – The Long Play (40th Anniversary)

Teen idol, style icon, pop phenomenon—with globally acclaimed megahits like “(I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena,” “In The Heat Of The Night,” and “Little Girl,” Sandra is one of the most successful and style-defining solo artists of the late 1980s. After four decades, the cult singer is now reissuing her 1985 debut album “The Long Play” as a strictly limited 40th Anniversary Edition featuring the original artwork.

After “(I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena” first climbed to the top of the singles charts in Italy, the song finally reached #1 in West Germany in August 1985, as well as in Austria, Switzerland, Norway, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, and many other countries. In Germany, “(I’ll Never Be) Maria Magdalena” was awarded a gold record. The following fall, the debut album “The Long Play” was released, spawning two more chart-toppers, “Little Girl” and “In The Heat Of The Night,” with which Sandra and Michael Cretu underscored their unique knack for timeless pop hits.

To mark its 40th anniversary, “The Long Play” is being reissued in its elaborate original artwork with the original tracklist on green vinyl. Rather than remastering the songs or altering them in any way, all tracks have been deliberately left in their original versions, striking a balance between an authentic ’80s vibe and timeless pop appeal.
